Neometals Signs Global Deal for Titanium Dioxide Technology

Australian mining company Neometals signed a licensing deal for the exclusive global rights to a proprietary hydrometallurgical technology that assists in the low-cost production of titanium dioxide. The company believes the new technology, which involves the energy-efficient recovery and regeneration of hydrochloric acid, will be instrumental in securing the viability of its Barrambie titanium project in Western Australia. The technology also has applications in the recovery of a broad range of other metal oxides apart from titanium. Neometals already had a restricted non-exclusive license to use the patent-pending process for the Barrambie project, but the new deal grants Neometals the exclusive right to commercialize and market the process around the world. Neometals says it will pay the process owner $250,000 upfront to secure the technology, and share revenues with the owner through a 25:75 split.
