TransData Signs First License Agreement for Smart Electric Meter Patent

TransData has signed a license agreement with a major smart grid solutions provider for its wireless smart electric meter patent portfolio. The agreement is the first license generated by TransData's Smart Meter Patents since the company started enforcing its intellectual property, and covers technology that was initially invented and used in the mid-1990s. The technology is directed toward digital electric meters equipped with an internal wireless communication circuit and antenna, furnishing electric meter circuitry within the meter for wireless communication. "This new licensing agreement further exhibits the significant advancement TransData's patents provide and their importance to the manufacture and operation of smart meters," says TransData attorney Jamie McDole. In October, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma ordered that the patents be construed in a manner consistent with the constructions offered by TransData. TransData filed a patent infringement litigation against a group of large U.S. electric utilities in October 2010.
