Talal Abu-Ghazaleh & Co. Consulting, UN-ESCWA, AIDMO Launch the Arab Project for Nanotechnology in Water Desalination and Solar Energy

AMMAN - Talal Abu-Ghazaleh & Co. Consulting (TAG-Consult) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA)and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO), operating under the League of Arab States, to prepare feasibility studies for nanotechnology-based manufacturing projects in water desalination and solar energy in the Arab states.

Under the MoU, feasibility studies will be prepared to establish industries at the level of the Arab world using nanotechnology in generating energy through solar power and in water desalination.

The provided services include launch of a campaign via various media channels to raise awareness on nanotechnology, its applications in all areas, particularly: water desalination and renewable energy.

This MoU embodies the decisions of 2013 Arab Economic Summit that was held in Kuwait and UN-ESCWA's role in the application of science and technology in implementing sustainable development goals and achieving scientific excellence in the Arab region. More importantly, nanotechnology applications will change economic and social situations through its practical applications in industrial areas, most significantly in energy, water and food.

HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), said that nanotechnology applications would play a vital role, especially if public and private sector joined forces to establish projects that optimally invest in nanotechnology, stating that this trend would contribute in turning sustainable development challenges to opportunities that create various job opportunities and drastically advance economic and human development.

On his part, Professor Fouad Mrad, Executive Director of the ESCWA Technology Center, emphasized that the establishment of nanotechnology-based industrial investment projects would achieve qualitative leaps for the economies of Arab countries, thereby resulting in positive effects at all levels.

Mrad also expressed his pride in cooperation with TAG-Org a prestigious and professional group that translates ideas into feasible plans and programs.

The MoU, moreover, aims to identify innovative ideas in the field of water desalination and renewable energy using nanotechnology in the Arab states, developing feasibility studies to turn those ideas into industrial projects and promoting them to ultimately attract investments for implementation by holding a specialized workshop and exhibition.

TAG-Consult will communicate and coordinate with all relevant scientific organizations and entities in Jordan and the Arab states for the purposes of sharing experience and effective networking among all concerned parties.
