Alcoa and Danieli Join to Commercialize Micromill Technology

Alcoa Inc. signed a letter of intent to commercialize its Micromill technology with the Danieli Group. As part of the agreement, Danieli will license Alcoa's intellectual property related to manufacturing advanced Micromill products. The two companies will work together toward selling Micromill equipment and licensing Micromill technology, and Alcoa will provide Danieli exclusive rights to sell Micromill equipment for a limited period of time. The partnership with Danieli will allow Alcoa to move from pilot plant to full-scale production. To date, Alcoa has Micromill qualification agreements with nine major automotive customers on three continents. Additionally, Alcoa and Ford reached an agreement wherein the latter selected Micromill material for use in its 2016 Ford F-150 trucks. Alcoa also announced it has entered into a joint development agreement with Ford to utilize next-generation aluminum alloys for automotive parts using Micromill technology.
